We have been on the other side of the table.
A revenue officer is the person the Internal Revenue Service sends when the letters have not worked. They file the liens, they issue the levies, and they decide how a case gets closed. That was Martin's job for years before he opened this practice.
When a federal tax lien is filed against you it becomes public record, and you will spend the next six months getting letters from Enrolled Agents, CPAs and attorneys all over the country explaining why you should hire them. That is a mailing list, not a recommendation.
We only write to people in New England, because we want to be able to sit down with the people we represent. If a Revenue Officer in New England is working your case, ask how a firm five states away is going to deal with them on your behalf.

Every case ends in one of these. Most of the work is finding out which one you qualify for and proving it.

Full payment
Paying the balance, sometimes after penalties have been abated.

Currently not collectible
Collection is suspended when paying would leave you unable to cover basic living costs.

Installment agreement
A monthly payment the IRS will accept and you can actually live with.

Offer in Compromise
Settling for less than the full balance, for the people who genuinely qualify.
